How to Show that Covid Dangers are a Government Fantasy

Mainstream Media, Academia, Government Says Covid Killed almost 800k Americans

The mainstream media claims that Covid is a dangerous disease which is so deadly that the government has to intrude into private citizens’ lives to fight it.  An example of such claims is this graph of supposed Covid deaths from The Washington Post (link at bottom of post):

Covid deaths/day (daily and 7-day average) in the United States, from Washington Post.

The pink bars show daily values, and the dark curve is a weekly average of the daily values to smooth out differences in reporting on different days of the week.  Over the period shown, which is about 20 months (620 days), the Post gives an average daily death rate of around 1200 people, which works out to a total of about 740,000 deaths.  The latest Post tally (4 December 2021) is 785,000.

Are Covid Deaths Really Lower & Vaccine Deaths Really Higher?

Some are skeptical that so many have died from Covid.  What if people who are dying of other things like heart attacks and cancer are being incorrectly listed as Covid deaths?  What if hospitals are lying about Covid infections to get higher insurance reimbursement? The actual Covid fatalities would be much lower than the claims of nearly 800,000 dead.

Also, some suspect that in the case of the Covid vaccines, the cure is worse than the disease.  If the government is undercounting the number of deaths they say are associated with the vaccine, side effects from the vaccine may have killed many more people, perhaps even more than Covid has killed.

It turns out, there is a way to prove both of these theories.

Total Deaths Show Whether Covid or the Vaccine Raised Death Rates

If most “Covid” deaths are really just “normal” deaths blamed on Covid, then the total death rate should not have gone up when Covid struck in spring 2020.  And if the FDA is hiding deaths from the vaccine, the vaccine deaths would still show up with higher death rates when many people got the vaccine, in Spring 2021.

The government keeps track of the total number of deaths each week.  The data is published by the Centers for Disease Control, but they get their data from individual states.  If liberal activists in federal agencies lie about the numbers for any states, the state public health agencies can call out the feds for giving the wrong numbers. I would expect that these numbers would get special scrutiny from governors who have resisted vaccine mandates, such as Greg Abbott (R, Texas) or Ron DeSantis (R, Florida). As far as I know, this has not happened, so the death numbers are probably reasonably accurate.

Here are weekly death numbers for deaths from 2017 to late November 2021 (link at bottom of post).  The bars show the actual numbers, and the golden line and plus signs give some statistical information about the data.

Weekly deaths in United States from all causes, from CDC.

The numbers do not seem to prove either of the theories.  For 2017-2019, there was a mild seasonal change, with up to about 60,000 deaths/week in winter and as low as about 50,000 deaths/week in summer.  There was a higher peak in winter 2017-2018 because of an unusually severe flu season. But in spring 2020, winter 2020-2021, and late summer/early fall 2021, deaths bumped up to much higher numbers than earlier years.  There was also a little bump in summer 2020.  Here is a side-by-side comparison:

All these bumps correspond to the waves of Covid deaths reported by the media.  Do the numbers match? The peak weekly average Covid deaths last winter (according to the Post) was about 3300 deaths/day, or about 23,000 deaths/week.  The peak in total deaths last winter (from the CDC) was around 85,000 deaths/week, which is around 25,000 more than the average winter peaks of 2017-2019.  So, the increase in deaths was roughly the same as the number of Covid deaths.

What about deaths from the vaccine?  Deaths went down in late winter 2021 and stayed down in both the Covid numbers and the total-death numbers until both rose with the next Covid wave.  There is no sign of extra deaths when tens of millions of people were vaccinated in spring 2021.

Looks Like Covid is the Real Killer

I have tested government claims that Covid kills hundreds of thousands, and that the Covid vaccines do not, by comparing Covid death rates to death rates due to all causes.  The all-cause death rate has been rising and falling with the Covid death rate and not with vaccinations.  Therefore, these claims appear to be true.  The theories that Covid is not killing many people, or that the vaccines are killing more, are not consistent with state data for death from all causes.
